Espinilho State Park brings together rare species of plants and animals across 1,700 hectares that resemble African landscapes, forming the "Gaúcha Savanna". It is the only reserve in Brazil where Ynhanduvai and Algarrobo trees flourish.

Espinilho State Park

Espinilho State Park is a 1,700-hectare protected area located in Barra do Quaraí. It is the only reserve in all of Brazil where the Ynhanduvai and Algarrobo trees grow, creating a landscape reminiscent of the African savanna — hence the name “Gaúcha Savanna.”

Biodiversity

The park is one of the best destinations in Brazil for bird watching. The Yellow Cardinal (Cardeal Amarelo) is one of the main attractions, along with other rare species of flora and fauna unique to this ecosystem.

Landscape

The park’s open grasslands with isolated trees create a landscape unique in Brazil, more similar to the savannas of Africa or the Argentine Pampa than to the typical Brazilian biomes.
