The Rincón de Franquía Environmental Protection Area is located at the confluence of the Uruguay and Cuareim rivers. This protected area is home to 223 bird species and is part of Uruguay's National System of Protected Areas (SNAP).
Rincón de Franquía Environmental Protection Area
The Rincón de Franquía Environmental Protection Area is located near and north of the city of Bella Unión, at the confluence of the Uruguay and Cuareim rivers. It is a floodplain area with natural levees and marginal lagoons, featuring a riparian forest that preserves flora and fauna with Paranaense influence, restricted to only a few areas in Uruguay.

The area is remarkable for its biodiversity:
- Birds: 223 recorded species
- Mammals: 15 species
- Amphibians: 21 species
- Reptiles: 14 species
Conservation Status
This area is one of the Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and has been part of Uruguay’s National System of Protected Areas (SNAP) since 2013.
